As Miami-Dade County’s official volunteer and donations arm following a disaster, United Way provided resources and recovery to our community before, during and after Hurricane Irma. Since the Miami-Dade County Emergency Operation Center was activated, our staff was there – responding to urgent requests, convening partners, resources, volunteers and raising funds for recovery. We are committed to helping our community rebuild by supporting both immediate relief activities as well as long-term recovery efforts.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve recruited volunteers; raised money for Operations Helping Hands; collaborated with local restaurants to provide hot meals to first responders and people in need; coordinated efforts with Feeding South Florida, Salvation Army, the Fire Department and Miami-Dade County to deliver food, water and ice to numerous shelters across Miami-Dade County; provided volunteers for the distribution of ice across various districts in Miami-Dade County; and our staff completed hundreds of hours at the Miami-Dade County Emergency Operations Center, among many other connections.
